The structure of the vanilla bean does not allow for steam distillation, which is the defining process for producing essential oils.

Instead, vanilla is offered in alternative aromatic forms such as oleoresins, absolutes, CO₂ extracts, and infused oils,  all of which allow formulators to capture the unmistakable richness of vanilla in cosmetic and aromatherapeutic applications.

Our Vanilla Oleoresin Oil is solvent-extracted from premium Vanilla planifolia pods sourced from Madagascar. This traditional extraction method concentrates the aromatic compounds of the vanilla bean, resulting in a thick, golden liquid with a rich, sensual, and indulgently sweet aroma.

Why Vanilla Oil (Not Essential Oil)?

Vanilla beans cannot be steam distilled. Instead, they are:

1. Gently soaked in purified fats to absorb aromatic compounds

2. Transferred into alcohol, where the aroma migrates

3. The alcohol is then evaporated, leaving behind a concentrated aromatic oil

The result is a true-to-nature vanilla aroma, far richer and more rounded than synthetic alternatives.

Pro Tip for Formulators

Vanilla oleoresin is highly aromatic and viscous, so a little goes a long way.

For best results: Use at lower percentages to soften sharp or resinous notes, Pair with citrus or woody oils to prevent (overly sweet) blends. Always account for potential colour contribution in light-coloured formulas.

Caution: Dilute before use; May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.
