Tetrasodium glutamate diacetate is a vegetable-based chelating agent and preservative booster made from plant material. It is a multi-purpose, clear, liquid chelating agent and preservative booster. Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate is made from plant material, readily biodegradable, with high solubility over a wide pH range. Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate serves the same function in formulations as EDTA, without the health and environmental concerns.

Chelating agents bind together ions that interfere with the effectiveness of the product they are added to. Chelating agents are able to bind metal ions (e.g. sodium, calcium, magnesium, zinc and many more). In personal care products, metal ions will lessen foam and can make products less effective. Chelators also make the preservative sysytem of the product more effective. They help prevent soap scum and are used to control metal ions across a very broad pH range. Chelators improve product stability, and offer enhancements in performance areas like better rinsability, foaming, and can help extend shelf life of packaged products.

Tetrasodium glutamate diacetate boosts the performance of the preservatives , allowing for the creation of products with improved stability. This improves the effectiveness of preservative ingredients, allowing the use of lower percentage of these, for safer shelf-stable products.

It is also a stabilizer, in formulations, it prevents discoloration of products and prevent changes in the pH value of packaged products which improves appearance and effectiveness.
