Description
Tetrasodium EDTA, is one of the most versatile, widely used and economical chelating agents. It is used in personal care products to control metal ions across a very broad pH range. Tetrasodium EDTA functions by bonding to metal ions, and inactivating them, to prevent deterioration of the product, which also prevents the metal ions from depositing onto the skin and hair. In formulations, chelating agents improve: effectiveness, stability, hard water performance, rinseability, clarity, fragrance integrity, and shelf life of formulations. Tetrasodium EDTA can also be used to neutralize Carbomer, or raise the pH of personal care formulations. Tetrasodium EDTA chelates most transition metals typically between pH range of 4 to 12.
Both Disodium EDTA and Tetrasodium EDTA, are commonly used in cosmetics. Generally, the choice of which product to use is determined by the intended pH of your product. Disodium EDTA is commonly used in neutral to mildly acidic products.
