Description
Lecithin is considered the only truly natural emulsifier. Our sunflower lecithin is produced using a unique process which does not utilize solvent extraction. Lecithin is a natural antioxidant, it acts as an emulsifier and thickening agent for body care products. It also improves shelf life of products by acting as a mild preservative.  Our Lecithin contains a natural mixture of triglycerides, phospholipids and glycolipids with a small amount of carbohydrates. Due to its liquid state it may be easily blended into cosmetic formulations thus removing blending barriers commonly found in both granules and powder.
Lecithin helps mix oils and water together but it is generally not reliable as a stand alone emulsion system. It is often used in conjunction with other emulsifying agents, emulsifying wax, or even lanolin and/or beeswax. When used in lotion and cream formulations, it imparts a fine nourishing film, that penetrates the skin layers and assists with creating a firm and highly moisturizing emulsion system.
Lecithin is widely used within the food and cosmetic industry for its nutritive benefits and as a lipophilic emulsifier, thickener and emollient.Â
