While the composition of shea butter and shea oil are similar in all other aspects, the difference arises in the amount of stearic acid, an essential fatty acid, which gives shea butter the thick consistency, is much lower in case of shea oil.

Shea oil has a natural fruity fragrance which is very unique and not seen in any other natural oil. It is due to shea oils extraction process that increases the esters, which imparts its unique fruity fragrance. Therefore, it is very easy to use shea oil in hair application as a stand alone leave in conditioner. A great alternative to all the other carrier oils.

Shea Oil is fractionated from Shea butter. As the Oleic oil melts at a lower temperature it is removed from the more solid butter and contains less Stearic fatty acid that gives Shea butter the solid, waxy consistency so not only will it not revert back to the consistency of the butter, it now has taken on its own unique rich but light texture.

Common Uses/Benefits

Shea oil is more moisturizing for our skin than Shea butter, thanks to the higher oleic acid content. It is also easy to apply as it has a much softer texture like a lotion but is as effective as a body butter.  Shea oil  will absorb almost instantly leaving your skin softer and giving you a radiant long lasting glow. Shea oil has a lighter scent than the butter so it will not illicit such a strong reaction!  While cold Shea butter actually gets so hard that it is challenging and time consuming to get it to the right composition to use,  Shea oil does not present these challenges.

Shea nut Oil absorbs easily into the skin to deliver intense moisture without irritating skin, leaving an oily residue, or clogging pores. This makes it ideal for skin types that are oily, sensitive, and mature as well as skin afflicted with acne and eczema. Rich in compounds that restore collagen, Shea Nut Oil is an effective anti-wrinkle treatment that plumps the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and aging. It is commonly found in cosmetic products such as face creams, lip balms, and sunscreens, as its antiseptic and astringent properties help to repair skin.

Because Shea Oil has excellent emollient and moisturizing properties, it is also widely used in shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments. Shelf Life: Users can expect a shelf life of up to 3 years with proper storage conditions (cool, out of direct sunlight). Refrigeration after opening is recommended.

Storage: It is recommended that cold-pressed carrier oils be kept in a cool, dark place to maintain freshness and achieve maximum shelf life. If refrigerated, bring to room temperature before using.
