Description
Rosemary seed extract also known as Rosemary oleoresin extract (ROE) is a natural anti-oxidant. It is 100% pure and has a darkish colour and a earthy aroma. It helps extend the shelf life of oils by preventing them from turning brown and going rancid. This is not a preservative and will not prevent mold, yeast and/or fungal growth. ROE also helps combat the dreaded orange spots (DOS) in soaps.
Oxygenated oils is one of several reasons why a finished product goes rancid. Rosemary extract is highly antioxidant and it doesn’t allow oxygen to attach to the free fatty oils, thus giving your finished product a longer shelf life. As with all preservatives, the oils that you are formulating with must be free from rancidity before using rosemary extract.
Our rosemary antioxidant CO2 extract is carefully produced from rosemary leaves that possess a high concentration of diterpene phenols. The leaves are then extracted using CO2 supercritical fluid extraction. This extraction method results in a superior quality, natural oil that maintains the most beneficial properties of rosemary including a high concentration of carnosic acid/diterpene phenols.
Rosemary seed extract is one preservative that is both naturally derived and approved for organic skincare formulations. It can be used in conjunction with vitamin E or on it’s own. They both help make a very stable oil-soluble preservative system.
This product is an all natural antioxidant that prevents oils from turning brown and going rancid, Since ROE is oil-soluble, it will do nothing for the waterside of your formulation. It is not a preservative. Test your final product to ensure optimal performance. The water side of a formulation is susceptible to mold, bacterial, and yeast. Therefore, you will need to add a broad-spectrum water-soluble preservative to your system as well.
