Our Peppermint Essential Oil is steam distilled from crisp, deliciously green leaves of the fragrant Mentha Arvensis plant. Peppermint Essential Oil has the aroma of the live plant, It is  wholesomely fresh, cool, herbaceous, strongly minty with a powerful menthol and sweet balsamic undertone – that can be used for both aromatherapy and natural perfumery.
The main constituent of peppermint is Menthol, a potent compound which unto itself causes a quick physical response when inhaled or applied the on skin. It produces a sensation of coolness, which the body counteracts by increasing blood flow to the area of application, producing a warming effect. Menthol is liberally used in candies, breath fresheners and beverages, but is also used as a cooling agent in popular over-the-counter muscle and joint preparations. Peppermint is used as a fragrancing agent in soaps, candles and toiletries.

Unlike the  piperita variety, which is a hybrid between watermint and spearmint, and has a stronger “minty” smell, the Menta arvensis, also known as the Japanese Mint, or Cornmint, has a softer minty note and has a higher percentage of menthol of up to 50%, as a result it may crystallize, place the bottle in a warm water bath, and gently agitate until it gets back to its liquid state.

Note: Because of the very high menthol content of this oil, it may crystalize. If so, we recommend place the bottle in a warm water bath, and gently agitate until it gets back to its liquid state.

Cautions: Dilute very well before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.
