Patchouli was first introduced to France by Napoleon, where it was originally used to protect cashmere and silks from moths. Its distinctive heady rich scent has since grown to become a popular choice for upscale exquisite perfumes. Patchouli has a rich and deeply mysterious aroma and was used as an aphrodisiac in ancient India. It has a unique characteristic, it is a relaxant in small quantities and a stimulant in large quantities. It has a very powerful woody, earthy, smoky scent. It is a very versatile essential oil that is considered luxurious, patchouli essential oil  is particularly appreciated in cosmetic industry due to its ability to add depth and complexity to a variety of scents. It is often found in deodorants, skin care products, and aromatherapy. It improves with age, that is, the aroma becomes deeper, rounder and more refined over time when properly stored.

Patchouli essential oil is commonly used in aromatherapy for its ability to soothe and calm. It encourages the release of serotonin and dopamine,  two hormones which ease feelings of anxiety and promotes feel good feelings. Due to its antiphlogistic properties, patchouli oil can soothe inflammation on skin by calming and promoting healing.

Historically known for its ability to increase libido, patchouli essential oil is often considered a powerful aphrodisiac.

Cautions: Dilute before use; May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.

Storage: It is recommended that oils packaged in metal containers (for safe shipping) be transferred into dark glass containers to maintain freshness and attain maximum shelf life.
