Description
N-acetyl glucosamine (NAG) is a compound that is found in the cell layers in between our skin and for this reason it is considered to be a “skin identical ingredient”. In skin care products, N-acetyl glucosamine improves barrier function and reduces dryness, boosts healing, reduces water loss, and brightens the complexion.
Studies have shown that N-acetyl glucosamine (NAG ) can increase collagen production, increase moisture content of the skin, increase elasticity of the skin, increase exfoliation, and increase the speed of wound healing.
N-acetyl glucosamine has also been shown to reduce hyperpigmentation and can be combined with niacinamide to further increase its ability to reduce hyperpigmentation.
N-Acetyl Glucosamine is an amino sugar that has skin exfoliating properties similar to alpha and beta hydroxyl acids without the irritation. N-acetyl glucosamine (NAG) can improve the exfoliation of the top layer of the skin, this makes it a good alternative for chemical based exfoliating ingredients that might be too strong for sensitive skin.
