Description
Isopropyl Myristate, also known as IPM is an emollient ester used in a variety of products from lotions, creams, to make up to help moisturize, and reduce the greasiness of lotions and creams, especially in anhydrous products (products made without water) . It is the product of the reaction of isopropanol with myristic acid (vegetable source). It is a non-greasy emollient, it is readily adsorbed by the skin.
When added to lotions and creams, IPM promotes a silky, smooth feel. In products made without water (anhydrous) like lotion bars, lip balms, etc. It imparts a dry, velvety emollience. It is used to reduce the greasiness of lotion bars, whipped butters and emulsions. IPM is resistant to oxidation and will not become rancid. IPM is also an effective diluent for fragrance oils.
