Description
Evening primrose oil contains high concentrations of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which has potent anti-inflammatory properties that may help treat and prevent acne. Evening primrose oil is derived from the seeds of the Oenothera biennis plant, which grows in North America and parts of Europe. Evening primrose naturally contains high quantities of omega-6 fatty acids and about 70 to 74% linoleic acid and 10% gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). It is a rich source of essential fatty acids. Linoleic acid and  Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) are essential components of myelin, the protective coating around nerve fibers, and the neuronal cell membrane. GLA  may help in improving the skin’s epidermis, it is shown to smoothen the skin and improve its elasticity, moisture, firmness, and fatigue resistance. Research show that GLA is necessary for ideal skin structure and function. Because the skin can’t produce GLA on its own, researchers believe taking GLA-rich evening primrose helps keep skin healthy overall, this is why Evening primrose oil is popularly used as a supplement or applied topically on skin. Evening primrose oil also contains polyphenols which is known for its hormone-balancing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.Â
