Description

Dimethicone is derived from silica and commonly used in haircare for its detangling and softening properties and to add shine to the hair. Also used in creams and lotions to help add a protective layer onto the skin, protecting from moisture loss. Dimethicone, included at even small amounts, is known as one of the best ingredients to provide a hydrophobic barrier to the skin where it can assist in slowing the skin’s moisture loss to improve hydration and moisture. Dimethicone is commonly used to improve the slip and glide of bath and body products which provides an easy solution for heavier, tacky creams and lotions. Also a great addition to anhydrous products to reduce greasiness and improve flow. Dimethicone imparts softness, lubricity and emolliency to formulations as it reduces whitening, soaping and tack during rub-in.

Manufacturers suggested Usage : 0.5%  – 5% (up to 80% possible), add to oil phase of formulas or at cool down.

Solubility: Insoluble in water,  soluble in oils

Common Uses/ Benefits

Hair & skin conditioning products as shampoos, conditioners, creams, lotions, but also color cosmetics (e.g. lipsticks, lip balms, makeup). Skin protectant products.

Storage: Store in cool dry place away from sunlight

Shelf life: Approximately 2 years if stored properly
