Description

Citric Acid is derived from corn and sugar beets through natural fermentation, and is GMO free. It is an excellent antioxidant and exfoliant, and it can be used as part of a product’s preservative system by altering the pH levels. Citric Acid is also the most widely used organic acidulate, probably because it is classified as a weak acid. It fuctions to neutralize the skin’s pH levels and to even out rough patches of skin.

Citric Acid is well known for its combination with Sodium Bicarbonate in the manufacture of Bath Bombs, the two combining to give ‘the fizz’ when the Bath Bomb is dropped into the water. Citric Acid is very high in Vitamin C. A low PH means it also helps to neutralise the water for the benefit of the user. A slightly crystalline appearance and feel means it holds colour and fragrance very well.

Manufacturer Suggested Usage;  0.1- 25%.  for bath bombs or fizzing products up to 25%. As pH adjuster less than 1%.Lactic acid can also be used as a PH adjuster. As with all formulations, kindly research and test to determine the threshold as it relates to your specific needs.

Common Uses/ Benefits

When applied to hair, Citric Acid opens up the cuticle allowing for deeper penetration of the cleaning agents. It is generally not recommended for any artificial hair coloring done, unless the intention is to strip the color out. It can also be used in shampoo. In bath bombs and other fizzing products it forms part of the reaction that causes the fizz. It can also be used to lower the pH of products in a solution with distilled water.
