Astaxanthin is a member of the marine micro-algae haematococcus pluvialis, it is the richest known natural source for carotenoid. Carotenoid is a fat soluble red pigment found in the marine world of algae and aquatic animals, carotenoids protect plants from UV light and free radical damage. Carotenoid provides natural protection to the algae and its photoprotective effects has been harnessed for the skin in this Astaxanthin extract.
Recent studies indicates that the distinct carotenoid found in Astaxanthin is capable of protecting against damaging free radicals, it provides potent antioxidant benefits that help reduce the overproduction of these damaging radicals. It can help with UV induced skin deterioration, or sun damage, possibly due to its powerful antioxidant activity. Further research has also shown it may help with the management of inflammatory conditions.
